In 1998, Baldwin discovered an interesting hobby making digital modifications to his landscape photographs, using Photoshop 4, Corel Designer and others.

He was struck by the formal possibilities of hard-edge flat color areas in a composition, and the technique informed him of the mind’s capacity to sense 3D relationships and imply details where none existed, leading to a minimalist form of landscape re-rendering he calls Repainted Photographs.
