Following the success of his repainted photographs, in 2002 Baldwin was drawing landscape impressions intended to use hard-edged and flat color areas. This created images on canvas with a captivating presence.
The same formal possibilities were still enticing, and he began to refer to his results as hard-edge impressionist landscapes, a fresh minimalist form.
